The Regional Judges Higher School (ERSUMA) in Porto-Novo has been hosting a training session for judges, attorneys, registrars and other court officers since Monday January 04, 2010. Organized by the Benin Program for the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA-Benin), this session is aimed at building capacities of the judicial personnel in our country.
" Improve the investments environment by increasing the ability of the justice system to enforce contracts and reconcile claims" is the objective of the ''Access to Justice'' Project by MCA-Benin whose activities contribute to securing business in Benin.
Achieving this goal requires justice stakeholders (judges, attorneys, registrars and other court officers) to master, inter alia, the standards by the OHADA, the regulatory business law Organization in francophone sub-Saharan Africa.
For this purpose, 90 judges, 60 registrars, 10 attorneys, 6 notaries and 4 ushers will be trained in modules specifically designed for each category of justice players from January 04 through 29, 2010.
Judges and other court personnel's capacities will be strengthened in:
• Opposition to payment order
• The Judge of enforcement litigation as per the OHADA Law
• The role of the judge in collective proceedings
• The role of the Justice Support in the arbitration process, and
• The legal system of mistrial under the OHADA Law.
As for the registrars, the different training modules intended for them by MCA-Benin include:
• The registrar's duty in the application of simplified recovery procedures and enforcement measures
• The role of the registrar in register keeping and credit dealing (RCM), and
• The role of the registrar in collective proceedings.
This training session which began on January 4, 2010 is the first one of a series of three that will take place every six months over a period of one month each.
