Construction of the Trial Court of Pobé: the site officially handed-over 05/08/2010

Selected to be benificiary of a Trial Court under MCA-Benin's  Access to Justice Project , the Municipality of Pobé organized, August 4, 2010, the official handover of the site identified for hosting the facility that aims at fostering citizens 'access to justice. The event gathered  around Saliou Akadiri, mayor of Pobé, and his council, heads of the contractors companies and the monitoring firm, as well as the Director of  the Access to Justice (DPAJ) Project, Richard Kpènou, and the Director of Environmental and Social Assessments at MCA-Benin, Jeanne Josette Acacha-Akoha.

As part of supporting the strengthening of the judicial system in our country, the Benin Program for the Millennium Challenge Account has provided under the Access to Justice Project, to building, among other facilities, new courts, in various locations nationwide, including the Commune of Pobé, main city in the department of Plateau, 92 km north-east of Cotonou.

With a cost of 533,824,859 francs (excluding VAT), the trial court will cover about 1 hectare of land, courtesy of the municipality, and will be built by the consortium of contractors ENS BTP from Côte d'Ivoire and SEIB SA from Benin. The works are scheduled to last 12 months as from July 15, 2010.

In his speech for the event, the mayor of Pobé (see picture in the right) expressed his gratitude and pride for the beautiful infrastructure  that will rise on the site; he also pledged to take all measures in his control to facilitate the work for the different companies.

Contracteors in their turn promised to abide to the environmental and social requirements set forth in the contract and to meet the assignment deadlline.

Worth specifying, PERS-BTP Consultants has been selected for the monitoring and the various quality controls, while CNERTP will ensure technical testings.
